Why would I consider Datria Applications?
Datria applications provide the simplest, lowest-cost method for exchanging real-time information to your mobile employees. With real-time information, you can make better decisions, deploy your resources more efficiently, reduce costs, and serve your customers more effectively. Your technicians can close more tickets per day. You can reduce overtime costs. You can improve customer satisfaction. In short, you can do more with less.

What type of device do I need to distribute to my mobile employees
so they can use Datria applications?
All they need is a phone or two-way radio. They can use any kind of phone, including mobile phones (GSM, CDMA, TDMA, etc.), landline phones, VoIP phones, wireless phones and so on. If you choose to outfit your employees with smart phones, they can often take advantage of advanced features, like receiving information via text messaging or e-mail, documenting their work with photos, or providing location data via GPS.

Where do Datria applications fit best?
If you have 25 or more field technicians that are assigned jobs via a dispatch system, we can improve your bottom line. We have special expertise in select industries, including services for complex capital and medical equipment, cable and satellite TV installation, broadband installation, telephone services, utility services, and storm recovery.
A good rule of thumb is to start with paper forms. If your mobile employees have to fill out forms that are then sent in to be re-keyed, we can help. In essence, we can voice-enable the form. Your employee simply calls in and is “interviewed” by the Datria application - which is a voice analogue of the paper form. The employee simply responds to the interview in natural language. The Datria application listens to the response, converts it to data, and updates the back-end system. You get faster, more accurate data at a lower cost.

So my employees can call the Datria application. Can the Datria
application call my employees?
Yes. All of our applications are bi-directional. If the Datria application becomes aware of information that needs to be communicated to an employee – as when a new trouble ticket is scheduled -- it calls the employee and speaks the information to him or her. The Datria application can also e-mail the information or send it via a text message.

So my employees can listen to a Datria application. Do they
have to write down what they hear?
They may want to write some things down. Or they can ask the Datria application to send the information as a text message (SMS) or as an e-mail. Or they can ask Datria to send a picture to their photo phone.

Do I have to replace my workforce automation and scheduling
applications?
No. Datria’s solutions transport information to and from your existing applications.
The idea is to get better, faster, more accurate data to your corporate system
so it can make better decisions and you can use your resources more effectively.
Part of our value proposition is that you can improve what you already have – you
get better payback on an investment you’ve already made.

Are Datria applications available in languages other than English?
Yes. Datria solutions run on top of speech engines from companies like IBM, Microsoft, Nuance, and ScanSoft. Typically, our solutions are available in the languages supported by the speech engine you choose.

How long does it take to train the system to understand a person’s
voice? Do we have to repeat that for every user?
Unlike dictation systems, there’s no need to “train” a Datria application. Our applications are structured around business forms and processes. Essentially, the user is filling in a form by answering questions that Datria asks. The Datria application “knows” the questions and also the legitimate answers. Thus, a Datria application knows what to listen for. This is generally known as a “directed dialogue” system as opposed to a dictation system. This is how we can get recognition rates that actually exceed those of normal human conversations.

What about security?
You can use a spoken password or a numeric password that’s entered on the phone’s keypad. For the best security, however, we recommend biometric voice prints. These provide much stronger security than traditional passwords because they can’t be stolen and they’re virtually impossible to fake.

My employees work in noisy areas. How does that affect Datria’s
ability to recognize their voice?
Since Datria knows what answers to listen for in a directed dialogue, it greatly enhances the systems’ ability to capture the correct spoken value even in fairly noisy environments. In very noisy environments, we can also recommend noise-canceling microphones. Even with noise-canceling microphones, a Datria solution is still much less expensive than fat client alternatives.

What technologies do I need to run a Datria application?
Datria solutions are deployed as standard J2EE applications, generally through web archive files (.WAR files) onto your choice of web application servers. All major web application servers are supported, including BEA WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, SAP NetWeaver, JBOSS and other popular platforms. The solution also requires a media server supporting industry standard telephony integrations (public switched telephone network or VoIP), a standard VoiceXML browser and integrated support for popular speech technology engines. Over 30 companies provide such W3C-compliant media platforms, and it is possible that your company already has a preferred supplier (though Datria can also provide this for you on a turnkey basis if you prefer).
You have the option to deploy these solutions on premise, or to work with an approved voice portal company (such as Vail Systems) for a hosted alternative.

Why should I consider a packaged application? Wouldn’t
it be better to hire a company to build a custom application for my specific
needs?
Packaged applications offer significant benefits compared to custom applications. First, they offer best practices - industry-best methods for conducting a business process. Thus, they can often improve your business. Second, shrink wrapped applications typically are designed to easily incorporate new technologies. Third, packaged applications typically deliver a total cost of ownership that 25% to 30% less costly than custom-built applications.
